Every generation comes with its own challenges, but the world our children are growing up in is changing at a remarkable pace. The things parents had to navigate growing up may be very different from what their children will encounter.

Technology is changing how children learn, communicate and relate with one another. Social media is influencing identity and values. Information is available at the click of a button, and children are being exposed to ideas and influences much earlier than previous generations.

In the middle of all of this, Christian parents are faced with an important question:How do we raise children who are prepared for the world they will live in without losing the values of the Kingdom we are raising them in?

1. Be Intentional in a Changing World

The world is changing and our approach to parenting must be thoughtful enough to recognise those changes without allowing the world to determine the values we give our children.

Sometimes, parents focus so much on wanting their children to be “good” that they forget to prepare them to think. We want obedient children. We want children who perform well in school. We want them to behave properly and make us proud but godly parenting asks a deeper question:Are we preparing our children to navigate the world they will eventually inherit?

Your child may face situations you never encountered. They may have to make decisions without you standing beside them. They will encounter opinions, pressures, opportunities and temptations that you cannot always control.

That means our responsibility is not simply to create a protected childhood but also to equip them for adulthood. We need to teach them how to think strategically.

How to discern. How to make wise decisions. How to recognise what is true. How to stand by their convictions. How to respond when their faith is challenged.

Most importantly, we need to teach them to walk with God for themselves.

The goal is not perfect parenting; the goal is purposeful parenting.

2. Let Your Children Hear You Speak God’s Word

One of the most powerful things parents can give their children is not simply advice, but an example.

Children do not only listen to what we say, but they also watch what we do.We may tell our children to trust God, but do they see us trusting Him when life becomes uncertain?

We may teach them to pray, but do they see us praying?

We may tell them that their identity is found in Christ, but do they hear us speaking God’s Word over our own lives?

This is where the power of confession becomes important. Teaching children to declare God’s Word over their lives can help them develop a biblical understanding of who they are and what God says about them.

Let your children see that Scripture is not simply something we teach them to recite. It is something we live by.

Our children need to understand that what they say does not simply disappear into the air.

Our words can encourage. They can build. They can destroy. They can shape how we see ourselves and how we relate to others.

This is why children need to be taught to speak life. Not because saying positive words magically makes everything happen, but because we want them to develop a pattern of speaking that is consistent with God’s truth.Teach your child to speak about themselves with dignity.

Remember That Your Children Are Arrows
Psalm 127:4 gives us a powerful picture:

“Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth.”
An arrow is not meant to remain in the hands of the warrior forever.
It is prepared.
It is sharpened.
It is positioned and eventually, it is released.
That picture gives us something important to consider about parenting.
Our children are not ours to control forever.
They are entrusted to us for a season.
Our responsibility is to help prepare them for the day when they will have to stand on their own.
That preparation requires more than academic success.
We have to sharpen them spiritually.
Prayer should become part of their lives.
Scripture should become familiar to them.
They should learn to seek God, hear His Word, ask questions, develop convictions and understand why they believe what they believe.
We should not simply raise children who know how to attend church.
We should raise children who know how to walk with God.

The goal of godly parenting is not to keep our children dependent on us forever. It is to prepare them to carry what we have taught them into a world that will eventually belong to their generation.

We want them to know God’s Word.

We want them to know how to pray.

We want them to understand their identity.

We want them to recognise their gifts.

We want them to think wisely. We want them to speak life.

We want them to stand when it is easier to follow the crowd.

OUR CHILDREN ARE ARROWS.
