You can love someone deeply and still neglect your relationship with them. Life gets demanding. Amidst the many things that scream for your attention, there is a need to nurture your relationship with your spouse.
Your Marriage Shouldn’t Get the Leftovers of Your Time
. Intentionality is required to give time to your marriage. You can not build your relationship with your spouse just by spontaneity.
Just like, and even more than, other important things in our lives like career, business, ministry and so on, you must schedule time for the one you love.
You can’t keep saying; “We’ll spend time together when things settle down.”
“We’ll go on a date when work isn’t so busy.”
“We’ll have that conversation later.”
Do things really settle down? Does the free time ever come?
Your actions must constantly reflect that your spouse is your priority after God.
Create time on purpose. DO NOT WAIT FOR THE PERFECT TIME.
Do not expend all your time, attention and energy on other things to give your spouse what is left.
Put the date night on the calendar.
Schedule the conversation.
Create phone-free moments.
Make room for intimacy.
Take the walk.
Have breakfast together.
Ask, “How are you really doing?”
Laugh together.
Talk about something other than responsibilities
It may feel strange to schedule these things initially but there is nothing unromantic about intentionally making room for the person you love. In fact, there is something deeply romantic about saying:“You are important enough for me to make time for you.”
