DOING GOD’S WILL IN MARRIAGE (1)

Jesus taught us to pray “thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven…’’As Christians, we know that following God’s will is crucial in every area of life. When it comes to marriage, we are convinced that finding out the mind of God, concerning who to marry is non-negotiable. It is simply the ONLY way to go. So we do all we can to discern and choose for ourselves the life partner that Heaven approves for us. All of this is commendable, but it is not enough.

Marrying the spouse that God has ordained for you is only the first step in a lifelong journey of building a marriage of purpose. While it is laudable that you sought and settled for God’s will in the choice of a life partner, It is even more important that you and your spouse keep seeking God daily in that marriage; you keep receiving instructions from Him and you follow His leading daily. Why is this important?

First, your marriage is not about you. It is primarily for God and for His glory. He brought you and your spouse together, so that you both can carry out His assignment. Bless the lives of others and expand His kingdom here on earth.

Also remember that what births a thing is what will sustain it. If God is the originator of your marriage (i.e your choice of a marriage partner is actually God’s will for you), allow him to also be its director and sustainer. Do not tell yourself: ‘’I have married God’s will for my life; so now, I can just chill and enjoy my marriage.’’ No! It doesn’t work that way! Your marriage is not primarily for you to ‘’chill and relax’’. It is an assignment given you by God to bless humanity and to bring Him glory.  So marrying God’s will does not give anybody the liberty to take a break from seeking God’s will for the marriage.

Day by day, seek God’s face concerning your marriage. Discover what He would have you and your spouse do per time and do it. That is the key to having a thriving, purposeful, heaven-approved union.
